Stick a fork in me. I’m done.
While Jon and I gear up for our debut at Collison in April, I have been busting my ass working on getting things ready for our site. In addition to working on client projects (of which, there are MANY). My to do list looks a lot more like a scroll, but I’m still racking up my karma points on my ToDoist app (you need this in your life, by the way).
And this? Right here? Story of my freaking LIFE right now:
Today alone I did three major projects, I’m horribly behind on some others, but grateful for the work. I’ve learned a lot in these past few months about perfecting our model so that we can avoid the dreaded bane of scope creep.
What is scope creep?
It’s when we (usually me) or a client wants more and more for less and less.
A business can’t function that way.
Not mine, not yours, not anyone’s.
So…how did I choose to remedy this?
We are working to get the tasks off of the table we need to, I put clients on a monthly web admin contract (because no website is ever really ‘done’ it’s only just the latest version), I’m using tracking tools to track my billable hours, invoicing clients, collecting payments and focusing on making what we do scalable.
What do I mean by this?
I have packaged much of what we do into small, easy to chew training modules, each one we sell for a profit.
I even give DISCOUNTS (like $10 worth) when people share our deal on their social media networks.
Leverage is a BEAUTIFUL thing.
And see, that’s what I want to do for small business owners. I want to teach them how to leverage themselves, their business, by using (and having) the right tools at the right time for the right service or product. I want to teach people how they can build massive passive income using blogs and content to vastly improve their lives without being that oh-my-god-you-are-such-an-annoying-marketer backlash.
But it takes time on the front end to do this.
How do I know this?
This is how my yesterday shaped up:
What do you see here?
Working off of little to no sleep, not able to get to my text messages, phone calls or much of anything else, because my focus, each and every day is DEPLOYING something for our business and for our clients.
In other words, I start when I wake up and I go (nonstop) until I can finally crash.
If you WANT success, you have to really WANT it. Then? You have to prove it.
You have to be better and faster than those out there and you have to be ready to deal with the next 18-year-old punk start up who wants to eat your lunch.
Every day, I’ll get correspondence from people who want to be more successful, who want to replicate what we do. But they aren’t willing to put in the TIME to do it.
I can give you all the tools in the world, I can’t give you the will.
Then? Get back to me.
All My Love,
